Questions, answered

How long is the hose?

The hose is 2 metres long. That is long enough for most people, and it still rolls up small to carry.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 90 minutes of running time from a full charge. That is enough for several showers, so one charge can cover a multi day trip.

Is the pump water-resistant?

Yes. The pump is fully submersible and built to run under water, with silicone sealed electronics rated IPX7. We have also tested it extensively in real outdoor conditions.

Will the pump lift out of the water when in use?

No. The pump has suction cups on its base that hold it to the bottom of the bucket or Solar Sac™.

What temperature water can the pump handle?

The pump can go in water up to 60°C. As a rule of thumb, if the water is too hot to touch, don’t put the pump in it. The pump does not heat the water; 60°C is the hottest water it can sit in.

Does this pump heat the water?

No, the pump itself does not heat the water. We like to boil some water and mix it with cold until it is the right temperature. Kits that include the Solar Sac™ can also warm water with the sun: leave it in direct sunlight for 2 to 5 hours and it can heat up to 20 litres to as much as 40°C. How warm it gets depends on strong, direct sun, so it works best in summer.

Does it work in salt water?

Yes, it can technically work in salt water, but we don’t recommend it. Salt water will cause corrosion and wear down components faster, and realistically, showering in salt water isn’t very effective anyway.

How much water does a horse wash use?

The pump moves about 5 litres of water a minute, so a 20 litre Solar Sac™ or bucket gives you about 4 minutes of continuous water. Turn the flow down with the switch on the shower head, or switch the pump off while you scrub, and the same water goes further. For a full wash down, keep a second bucket of water ready to refill from.

Can I run it from a bucket or jerry can?

Yes, from a bucket or any container the pump can sit in fully under water. The pump needs to stay submerged to draw water, and its suction cups hold it to the bottom so the hose doesn’t pull it up. The pump doesn’t fit through a standard jerry can opening, so pour the water into a bucket or the Solar Sac™ first.

Can I charge it while I’m using it?

No. The pump runs under water, so charge it before you head out. It charges through a standard USB-C port, so any USB-C cable works, including a phone charger or power bank. A full charge takes 3 to 5 hours and gives up to 90 minutes of running time.

Is it safe to use on my horse?

Yes, it is designed for washing horses. Use the shower head for a gentle rinse of the coat, and save the more concentrated sprayer for legs and hooves. The pump does not heat the water, so if you have added hot water or left the Solar Sac™ in the sun, check the temperature on your hand before you start.

Properly Sealed Electronics

As a submersible pump, water resistance is critical to how long the product lasts. Every electronic component inside is coated with our ResinSeal-X™ 1cm thick waterproof layer that shields the internal electronic components, from water ingress. Giving the pump far greater protection than the basic/non-existent sealing found in generic alternatives.

Designed to Stay Submerged

Submersible pumps need to stay underwater to function, if the intake rises above the water line, the pump can't draw water and the flow stops. The shower hose naturally tugs on the pump during use, and without something holding it down, the pump will lift out of the water mid-shower, leaving you standing there covered in soap with no water flow. We fitted four suction cups to the base of ours to hold it to the bottom of a bucket or Solar Sac, keeping it submerged throughout the shower. Generic pumps typically don't include suction cups, and many of them actually float, which causes them to lose pumping ability under normal use.

Real Shower Pressure

Our pump delivers 25 PSI at 5 L/min, which aims to replicate the feel of home shower pressure. That's enough pressure to properly rinse soap from your hair, wash sand and sweat off your skin, and actually feel clean when you step out. Most generic camping pumps typically have a flow rate of 3–4 L/min, which makes a noticeable difference when you're trying to rinse off quickly after a day outdoors.

Universal USB-C Charging

We designed our pump to charge via a standard USB-C port, so any cable you already own will work, your phone charger, a power bank cable, or one borrowed from a friend at camp. The port is protected by a high-hardness rubber cap that seals over the connection to keep water and grit out. Many generic pumps use a proprietary charging cable specific to that pump. If that cable is lost or left at home, the pump effectively becomes unusable until a replacement is sourced.

Designed to Handle the Outdoors

We designed our pump with a durable, UV-stable ABS body to better resist drops, knocks, and sun exposure in real outdoor conditions. Because this is a submersible pump, a cracked housing is a serious failure point, once water reaches the electronics, the pump dies. A tougher outer body helps protect the internals, so the pump is built to last through repeated use outdoors.
